Bainabai Sagar was taken out of school and married off at the age of nine. A few years later, she was a single mother facing her son's medical bills alone.
To manage expenses, she started a tea stall.
With loans from Mann Deshi, Bainabai's business outgrew its stall under a tree, then her new tea cart. She now has a storefront and has encouraged many other women to join Mann Deshi Bank.
Meet Kantabai, another Mann Deshi entrepreneur >
We work with women like Bainabai and Kantabai, who earn less than $2 a day in rural Maharashtra.
About seventy percent of our clients are from marginalized castes. Despite such obstacles, they are entrepreneurs and change-makers in their communities.
